CLENCHING, GRINDING, AND TMJ DISORDERS
Dentists frequently refer to a group of problems related to the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). Symptoms include, but are not limited to:
1. Jaw joint pain in the ear area
2. Noises that sound like a pop, click, or grinding in the joint or ringing in the ears
3. Tense or painful muscles in the face, neck and head areas
4. Unusual and heavy wear pattern
5. Inability to open wide
Our treatment varies from noninvasive counseling, referral to physical therapy, and making of bite-guard appliances to more advanced bite analysis and treatment. As with all dental problems, early and accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment plans are most important for successful management. Our years of experience have allowed us to have a very high success rate in this complex area of dentistry.
